Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Honored for Service to the Arts
IP law firm continues commitment to serve area artists through its ongoing pro bono program

CHICAGO - Chicago-based Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione (Brinks), one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the country, has received a "Distinguished Service for the Arts" award from Lawyers for the Creative Arts (LCA) in recognition of the firm's pro bono services to the arts sector. The award was presented at LCA's fall awards luncheon held on Thursday, October 22, in downtown Chicago.

Brinks was the first intellectual property law firm in Chicago to establish a formal pro bono program, and the firm has a long history of involvement with LCA. Shareholder William H. Frankel is chairperson of the firm's Copyright Group and is LCA's immediate past president. Prior to his service as president, Mr. Frankel was a board member at LCA. During Mr. Frankel's tenure as president, LCA received a Joseph Jefferson Award Citation for its work with Chicago theatres.

Brinks has donated legal services to numerous LCA projects, which have included fighting copyright infringement on behalf of photographers; securing a television licensing and royalty agreement on behalf of a singer/songwriter; resolving an Internet domain name dispute for a nonprofit children's programming company; and other pro bono matters.

Bradley G. Lane, a trial attorney and chairperson of the firm's pro bono program since 2002, accepted the award on behalf of Brinks. Mr. Lane was a member of the ad hoc committee that formed the firm's pro bono program in 2000 under the leadership of Jerome Gilson, a shareholder and former managing partner at the firm.
