CHICAGO - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, has been ranked as one of the two leading Chicago IP practices by the Practical Law Company's (PLC) Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2008. The firm shared the highest ranking, ("Leading") for a Chicago IP practice with one other firm, a general practice firm with an IP department. The survey also ranked Brinks among the leading 25 law firms in the area of patent litigation in the United States including both IP boutiques and general practice firms.
The survey commented that niche (boutique) firms like Brinks are thriving in Chicago and are "holding their own against their full service counterparts." The survey cites that "of the niche firms, Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is perhaps the best known and is active on all aspects of the IP spectrum." PLC singled out senior shareholders, Jerome Gilson and Roy E. Hofer, as adding to the firm's excellent reputation.
The Yearbook's rankings are based on more than 5,500 responses to surveys of in-house counsel in companies listed in the PLC Law Department Profiles and on interviews with private practitioners.
