Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Attorneys Recognized in 2008 Who's Who Legal: Illinois

CHICAGO - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, is pleased to announce that six of the firm's attorneys have been named in Who's Who Legal: Illinois for 2008 in a survey conducted by Law Business Research Limited.

The following Brinks attorneys have been named in the 2008 Who's Who Legal: Illinois in these practice area categories:

Patents
Roy E. Hofer - Mr. Hofer, a shareholder and named partner, has more than 45 years of experience in the litigation of patent, trade secret, trade dress and related antitrust and contract matters. Although continuing to be involved in district court cases, he now devotes most of his time to Federal Circuit cases; being a mediator, arbitrator or special master; and rendering opinions on patent validity, infringement and litigation issues.

Jerold A. Jacover - Mr. Jacover is a shareholder and the immediate past president of the firm. His practice includes experience in patent, copyright and unfair competition, including litigation and trials. He has tried successfully cases that have involved a wide variety of technologies.

Trademarks
Jack Berenzweig - Mr. Berenzweig, a shareholder, splits his practice between patent litigation, trademark litigation and sports law. He has been particularly active in cases protecting manufacturers against the distribution of counterfeit copies of their products, as well as representing Asian companies in the U.S. with respect to U.S. industrial property matters.

Jerome Gilson - Jerome Gilson is a shareholder and named partner and is well known in trademarks and unfair competition practices. He has received numerous awards and other professional recognitions, including a 2007 induction into the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame. However, he is perhaps best known globally as the original author of a leading treatise in the field, Gilson on Trademarks (LexisNexis/Matthew Bender), formerly titled Trademark Protection and Practice).

Jeffery A. Handelman - Mr. Handelman is the chair of the Trademark Group at Brinks. His expertise includes trademark law, unfair competition, trade dress, dilution, false advertising, copyright law and licensing matters. Recently, Mr. Handelman published the two-volume treatise, Guide to TTAB Practice, which won the 2008 Burton Award for Legal Achievement in the category of Best Law Firm Compendium.

Trademark and Patent
Gary M. Ropski - Mr. Ropski is currently president of Brinks. His practice includes patent, trademark and copyright litigation, as well as counseling and advisory work. He also has extensive experience in presenting and rebutting damage claims in intellectual property litigation.
