Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Ranks as Leading Intellectual Property Law Firm in Chicago by PLC Cross-border Handbook
Firm One of Few Listed as Tops in Patent Litigation in the US

CHICAGO - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is listed as the leading intellectual property law firm in Chicago, according to The PLC Cross-border Intellectual Property Handbook 2007/2008. Further, the firm is one of only a few intellectual property boutiques in the nation singled out as recommended in the area of patent litigation.

In addition, five of the firm's shareholders have been recognized as leading lawyers in their field. The five Brinks attorneys receiving high recommendations in the guide are: Jerome Gilson, Raymond W. Green, Roy E. Hofer, Jerold A. Jacover and Gary M. Ropski.

Jerome Gilson is a senior shareholder in the firm's trademark practice. According to the PLC guide, he is "highly-recommended" and "regarded as one of the best trade mark lawyers in Chicago [whose] practice covers all aspects of trade mark registration and protection. [He] also enjoys a strong litigation profile." Mr. Gilson has specialized in trademark and unfair competition law for almost 45 years and is the original author of Trademark Protection and Practice, recently renamed Gilson on Trademarks.

Raymond W. Green, a shareholder and chair of the firm's Interferences Group, is recommended as "a highly-rated and renowned patent specialist with experience in all aspects of prosecution and protection."

Roy E. Hofer is a senior shareholder with more than 45 years of experience in the litigation of patent, trade secret, trade dress and related antitrust and contract matters. According to the handbook: "Acknowledged as one of the leading names in the city, he is a longstanding litigator with a wealth of experience across the gamut of patent, trade secret and anti-trust issues." Mr. Hofer is designated as one of two "Leading" attorneys in IP in the Chicago area.

Jerold A. Jacover, a shareholder and immediate past president of the firm, according to the handbook, is "recommended" and is "recognized in the market for his strong patent litigation track record."

Gary M. Ropski, president of Brinks, is singled out in the individual rankings as "highly-recommended" and is cited as "maintain[ing] a broad-based IP litigation practice." Mr. Ropski's practice includes trademark, patent and copyright litigation, as well as counseling and advisory work.
