CHICAGO - Roy E. Hofer, a senior partner at Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., has been nominated to appear in the inaugural edition of Legal Media Group's Expert Guide, Best of the Best U.S. 2006. Mr. Hofer was selected after receiving an exceptional number of nominations by in-house counsel and peers identifying him as one of the top 25 patent experts in the United States.
Mr. Hofer has more than 45 years of experience in the litigation of patent, trade secret, trade dress and related antitrust and contract matters. Although continuing to be involved in trial work, he now devotes most of his time to being a mediator, arbitrator or special master in intellectual property cases, consulting in appellate cases and rendering opinions on patent validity, infringement and litigation issues. Mr. Hofer is also a member of the Conflict Prevention & Resolution Institute for Dispute Resolution's Intellectual Property Panel of Distinguished Neutrals.
According to Best of the Best, nominees are strictly screened and nominations are analyzed for bias. Research was conducted by distributing more than 3,500 surveys to senior in-house counsel, partners at pre-eminent law firms and other specialists, as well as interviews with practitioners in cities across the country.
Founded in 1917, Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is headquartered in Chicago with four additional offices across the country serving the intellectual property needs of clients from around the world. The firm is one of the largest IP law firms in the country, with more than 150 attorneys, scientific advisors and patent agents specializing in intellectual property litigation and all aspects of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair competition, intellectual asset management, and technology and licensing agreements. Brinks routinely handles assignments in fields as diverse as electrical, chemical, mechanical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, nanotechnology, Internet and computer technology, as well as in trademarks or brand names for a wide variety of products and services.
