Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione's Lawrence G. Almeda Selected to Join "Leadership Detroit"

CHICAGO - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., is pleased to announce that Lawrence G. ("L.G.") Almeda, an attorney in the firm's Ann Arbor, Michigan office, has been selected to participate in the 2006-2007 session of Leadership Detroit. Sponsored by the Detroit Regional Chamber Foundation, Leadership Detroit is a regional community leadership program founded in 1979.

Mr. Almeda is one of approximately 65 individuals chosen to participate in Leadership Detroit. Selection is based on a demonstration of service to the region, decision-making responsibility, a high level of leadership participation in organizations, commitment to ongoing leadership and the ability to facilitate change, shape policy and exert influence on regional issues. Participants must commit to 12 full days of attendance over a 9-month period.

"I am honored to be selected for Leadership Detroit," said Mr. Almeda. "I am eager to expand on my skills and apply them to my relationships with clients, colleagues and members of the community while also working with other leaders on important regional issues. Sincere thanks to Brinks for its full support of my involvement in this most worthwhile endeavor."

Leadership Detroit's mission is to provide the foundation for a lifelong commitment to leadership by creating awareness of key issues that affect the Detroit region and to challenge emerging and existing community leaders to bring about positive changes in the community through informed leadership.

In addition to his role with Leadership Detroit, Mr. Almeda was recently elected president of the Michigan Asian Pacific American Bar Association and appointed chair of the Washtenaw County Bar Association's Business Law Section. He has also served as chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section and as an executive council member of the State Bar of Michigan's Young Lawyers Section.

Mr. Almeda's practice focuses on counseling and prosecution in all areas of intellectual property, with emphasis in patent matters, infringement and validity evaluations and licensing in the medical, chemical and nanotechnology arts.

Founded in 1917, Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is based in Chicago with three other offices across the country serving the intellectual property needs of clients from around the world.
