Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Attorneys Listed in Best Lawyers 2006

CHICAGO — Four attorneys from Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, are listed in the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the Intellectual Property Law category.

Firm partners Jerome GilsonRoy E. HoferJerold A. Jacover and Gary M. Ropski received nominations in the guide, which is compiled from questionnaires completed by attorneys already considered to be the top lawyers in their fields.

Jerome Gilson
 has specialized in trademark and unfair competition law for more than 40 years. He handles trademark trials and appeals in the federal courts and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, mediates trademark disputes and handles a wide variety of counseling and drafting in the field. He holds an A.B. from the University of Missouri and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.

Roy E. Hofer
 has more than 40 years of experience in the litigation of patent, trade secret, trade dress and related antitrust and contract matters. Although continuing to be involved in district court cases, he now devotes most of his time to Federal Circuit cases as a mediator, arbitrator, or special master and to rendering opinions on patent validity, infringement and litigation issues. Mr. Hofer holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Purdue University and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Jerold A. Jacover
 focuses his practice on patent, copyright, and unfair competition. He has successfully tried cases that have involved a wide variety of technologies, including electronic circuitry, remote controls, robotics, electro-mechanical systems, injection molding and food and beverage equipment. He has litigated case for Abbott Laboratories, The B.F. Goodrich Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Motorola, Inc., etc. He has obtained several multi-million dollar recoveries for various clients, including a judgment in excess of $40,000,000 after a five-week patent jury trial. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Gary M. Ropski
 focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, but also handles matters relating to patent prosecution, trademark prosecution and oppositions, trade dress, trade secrets, copyright registration, right of publicity counseling, unfair competition, and antitrust matters. He has extensive experience in presenting and rebutting damage claims in intellectual property litigation. He received his B.S. in physics from Carnegie-Mellon University and holds a J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law.
