CHICAGO — Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione has been named as one of the top 20 law firms for patent litigation in an annual survey published by IP Law & Business, the leading intellectual property magazine. According to the survey which ranked firms by the number of patent litigation cases filed, Brinks filed 24 patent litigation cases in 2004. Brinks is also listed among the top 25 law firms for the number of patent cases defended with 13 cases defended.
"The survey results reflect the confidence that our clients have in our litigation team,” said James R. Sobeiraj, chair of Brinks’ litigation practice. “With 100 attorneys in our litigation group, we can provide a deep bench of experienced patent litigators for many cases running on parallel tracks."
In conducting the survey, IP Law & Business contacted “Am Law 200” law firms, the winning law firms from its 2004 patent litigation survey, the winning firms from their “Who Protects IP America” survey and the 50 firms in the U.S. with the most patent lawyers. The rankings are determined solely on the number of patent cases a firm initiates or defends, not including international or appellate cases. The firms with the highest number of cases filed win. According to the magazine, “the survey does not measure success in court (wins and losses), but it does give a sense of who’s getting the most calls.” This is the fifth year the survey has been published. IP Law & Business is published by ALM and is a monthly publication written for the intellectual property community.
