CHICAGO — Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is pleased to announce that Gary M. Ropski and Roy E. Hofer have been recognized in The International Who’s Who of Patent Lawyers for 2005, published by Law Business Research Limited of London. Brinks is the only law firm in Illinois to have two patent attorneys listed.
Mr. Ropski was recently elected by shareholder vote to take over as President of the Firm on Jan. 1, 2006. He has practiced intellectual property law exclusively since joining Brinks in 1976. His practice focuses on litigation, but has included patent prosecution and litigation, trademark prosecution (including oppositions) and litigation, trade dress litigation, copyright registration and litigation, trade secret litigation, right of publicity counseling, litigation and related unfair competition and antitrust matters in federal and state courts. He has extensive experience in presenting and rebutting damage claims in intellectual property litigation.
Mr. Hofer is a shareholder and senior partner with the firm’s Litigation Group and was recently included in the 2005-2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®, making him one of a select group of attorneys who have appeared on the list for 10 years or more. Mr. Hofer has more than 40 years of experience in patent, trade secret and trade dress litigation and has briefed and argued many cases in the Federal Circuit. He now focuses his practice on Federal Circuit cases; being a mediator, arbitrator or special master; and rendering opinions on patent validity, infringement and litigation issues.
The Who’s Who research is conducted through interviews with private practice lawyers either in the practice area in question or in related fields, as well as with general counsel; the individuals and firms they recommend are then canvassed using questionnaires. The returned data is collated with information gathered from the legal and financial media and respondent corporate counsel, and Who’s Who then compiles and distributes a preliminary listing to all the lawyers who have been mentioned, requesting their comments. Further interviews are conducted internationally to permit Who’s Who to refine the listing to a selection of between 200 and 500 lawyers who, by general agreement, are considered the pre-eminent lawyers in the field.
