Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Voted Top Trademark Firm in Central U.S.
Chicago-Based IP Law Firm Named First in Litigation and Non-Contentious Work

CHICAGO - The intellectual property law firm Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione was voted the best law firm for trademark work in the Central U.S., according to Managing Intellectual Property magazine's November issue, which named the firm first in both trademark litigation and non-contentious trademark work.

For the past five years, the UK-based magazine has annually surveyed approximately 3,500 international readers, primarily in-house counsel and private practitioners, and each year Brinks has been singled out as one of the top intellectual property law firms in the United States.

"We are honored to have been acknowledged once again as a leader in this category," said Jerome Gilson, who leads the firm's Trademark Practice. "We're very proud that our firm is sought out for trademark work by some of the world's most respected corporations."

This past year, the firm was successful on behalf of GoTo.com in its trademark infringement lawsuit against Walt Disney Corp. and was one of the first to file an anti-cybersquatting lawsuit under the new federal legislation, passed late last year, on behalf of Harvard University.

Brinks President Jerold A. Jacover notes that the firm has seen a dramatic increase in IP work in the past year. He attributes one of the biggest factors in Brinks' success to the fact that instead of being all things to all people, the firm has, for more than 80 years, consistently provided dependable and valuable IP services to its clients.

"Being named again by Managing Intellectual Property as the top trademark law firm, as well as one of the top patent law firms, in the Central U.S. confirms that this is the right philosophy."

Founded in 1917, Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is based in Chicago, with offices in San Jose, Calif., Indianapolis, Ind., Ann Arbor, Mich. and Arlington, Va. The firm is one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the country, with approximately 120 attorneys who specialize in intellectual property litigation and all aspects of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and Internet work, unfair competition and technology and licensing agreements.
