CHICAGO - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, shares first place for intellectual property in Illinois with Kirkland & Ellis in the Chambers USA Guide to America's Leading Business Lawyers. Additionally, partners Roy E. Hofer and Gary M. Ropski are singled out as leading individuals in intellectual property in the state.
Chambers and Partners, the renowned London-based publisher ofChambers Global and Chambers UK Leading Lawyers, investigated the top firms and lawyers in each U.S. state in over 20 commercial areas of law. Chambers USA researchers conducted more than 4500 interviews with leading private practice attorneys and key in-house counsel. They applied a ranking of 1-6 bands that distinguish levels of seniority or significant activities of lawyers. According to Chambers USA's Guide, "this comprehensive IP boutique has emerged as the leader among specialist firms in Chicago." Interviewees emphasized the "historical longevity" of the firm and its size, saying "they are bigger than anyone else and undertake so much more work." The guide notes that researchers were "impressed by the firm's domination of the Illinois market."

Gary M. Ropski shares third place. According to Chambers USA, "the respected Gary Ropski is a litigator who also stood out to contemporaries for his work in patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright and IP litigation, representing clients at state, federal and international level."
