Brinks' Copeland Named President of Federalist Society in Chicago

CHICAGO – Brinks attorney Trevor K. Copeland has been elected president of the Chicago Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies. Mr. Copeland has served on the Society's Executive Board since 2003 and has presented at several of its events.

Mr. Copeland, who was elected a shareholder at Brinks this year, focuses his practice on patent prosecution, utility and design patent litigation, client counseling, and opinion work. His patent prosecution experience includes work on medical devices, sunglasses, footwear, sprinklers and irrigation equipment, decorative statuary and water gardens, biotechnology and general mechanical arts. He works closely with clients to develop intellectual property acquisition and management strategies, as well as to protect new ideas and products.

Mr. Copeland's litigation practice includes design patent lawsuits, whereby clients are able to protect the unique and valuable ornamental designs of their products and/or to defend against allegations of infringement by others. He has also litigated utility patents and has worked on preliminary injunction lawsuits for both design and utility patents.

Mr. Copeland is a member of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court, the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, the Intellectual Property Owners Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Prior to becoming an attorney, he was a high school biology and chemistry teacher, and was a visiting scientist with a Fungal Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Laboratory Group. He earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. Mr. Copeland earned his M.S. in molecular, cellular, developmental biology & genetics with a minor in bioethics from the University of Minnesota. He holds a B.S.Ed. in biology from Arkansas State University.
