International Who's Who of Trademarks 2011 Recognizes Four Brinks Attorneys

CHICAGO – Four prominent attorneys at Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, including firm president Gary M. Ropski, senior shareholder Jerome Gilson, and shareholders Mary M. Squyres and Jack C. Berenzweig have been recognized in the 2011 edition of The International Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers, part of the 2012 compendium volume of The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.

Since 1996, Who's Who Legal, published by Law Business Research, has identified the foremost legal practitioners in 31 areas of business law. Nominees must receive at least four independent nominations from clients and peers to be included in Who’s Who Legal.

Gary Ropski, a shareholder at Brinks and the firm's president since January 2006, is a trial lawyer with 35 years of experience in intellectual property law. He has litigated in every federal judicial circuit in the United States and in almost all of the top ten districts for patent litigation. Mr. Ropski has participated in more than 100 intellectual property lawsuits, and has received accolades for how he presents and rebuts claims in litigation, making complex topics easily understandable by a jury or judge. Mr. Ropski also taught patent and copyright law for 17 years at the Northwestern University School of Law.

Jerome Gilson, widely recognized as the original author of Gilson on Trademarks, a leading treatise in the trademark field, has practiced trademark and unfair competition law for more than 45 years. Admitted to practice before eight federal courts of appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States, Gilson has led numerous trials and appeals before the federal courts and the United States Patent and Trademark Office Trial and Appeal Board, as well as helped some of the largest trademark owners in the world protect their brands.

A shareholder at Brinks, Mary Squyres chairs the International Trademark practice and manages eight staff and more than 15,000 active trademark files. Her practice includes international trademark litigation, licensing and prosecution, including determination of international filing strategies, negotiating worldwide mutual co-existence agreements and effective enforcement strategies to defend marks and prevent infringements. Ms. Squyres is the author of West’s Trademark Practice Throughout the World, a three-volume treatise on managing an international trademark portfolio.

Jack Berenzweig practices patent litigation, trademark litigation and sports law. He has been particularly active in cases protecting U.S.-based manufacturers against the distribution of counterfeit copies of their products, as well as representing Asian companies in the U.S. with respect to their intellectual property.
