CHICAGO - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, announces it will chair a conference aimed at educating mid-level attorneys on the complexities of trademark law. "Trademark Law: Beyond the Basics," sponsored by LexisNexis, will be held April 15 at the Westin Chicago River North. The conference is the second in a series of three conferences chaired by Brinks and sponsored by LexisNexis on trademark law and strategy.
"The firm is pleased to partner again with LexisNexis in a trademark program with outstanding faculty," says Jerome Gilson, senior member of the Trademark Group at Brinks and co-author of Trademark Protection and Practice. "We are especially honored that eminent Judge Richard A. Posner of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals will be our featured speaker on "Doubts about Dilution." The conference will inform attorneys about the fundamentals as well as the latest developments in the field, both prerequisites of first class client representation.
The conference is aimed at mid-level associates who want a more in-depth look at the next level of issues, as well as more senior lawyers who need a refresher. The presentations will be woven around a trademark conflict involving a fictitious trademark and a charge of infringement. It will feature presentations by prominent trademark attorneys, investigators, professors, authors, in-house counsel and a former president of the International Trademark Association.
Participants will receive in-depth analysis of current developments and trends in trademark law, trademark searches, investigation issues, opinion letters, application and prosecution issues, licensing, enforcement and trademarks on the Internet. In addition, each attendee will receive a comprehensive article about the Madrid Protocol, the treaty which will take effect this fall and will greatly facilitate international trademark filings.
LexisNexis will present "Advanced Trademark Strategies," the third conference in this series, on October 30-31 in New York at the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park. For more information on the conference, call 1-800-MEALEYS or go to www.mealeys.com.
