Brinks Honored for Pro Bono Contributions by Public Interest Law Initiative

CHICAGO – Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the country, has been included on the 2010 Pro Bono Recognition Roster of the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) and was recognized for its commitment to pro bono work at PILI’s annual “Celebrating Pro Bono” reception.

Brinks was honored for the innovative steps it has taken to include more attorneys in its pro bono program. For example, the firm encourages all attorneys to work with clients to develop pro bono partnering projects suited to the client's interests, and the firm encourages all incoming associates to work at PILI-affiliated legal aid or public interest agencies during the summer following their law school graduation, before beginning full-time employment with Brinks.

Brinks believes in professional responsibility and maintains a firm-wide commitment to pro bono work. The firm was the first intellectual property law firm in Chicago to establish a formal pro bono program and its attorneys have been actively involved with organizations such as Lawyers for the Creative Arts, Coordinated Advice and Referral Program for Legal Services, Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, National Immigrant Justice Center, Center for Disability and Elder Law and Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic.

Founded in 1977, the Public Interest Law Initiative creates opportunities for law students and lawyers by providing public interest and pro bono work in Illinois. The “Celebrating Pro Bono” reception spotlights the community’s pro bono relationships and successes.
