Two Brinks Attorneys Named Among 2010 Utah Legal Elite

SALT LAKE CITY - Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., is pleased to announce that Christopher L. Wight and Ryan L. Marshall have been recognized by Utah Business magazine as members of the 2010 Utah Legal Elite in the practice area of Intellectual Property. Honorees will be included in the January 2010 issue of the magazine's special "Legal Elite" section.

Christopher Wight, who was also included in the 2009 Utah Legal Elite, is a veteran of the biopharmaceutical industry. An alumnus of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, where he began his professional career as an associate attorney from 1985-1988, Mr. Wight subsequently served for 14 years as a leader in the intellectual property departments of two internationally recognized biopharmaceutical companies and was responsible for developing and protecting intellectual property assets, identifying and negotiating rights to third party patents, and maximizing patent life-cycles, resulting in highly successful commercialization of various biopharmaceutical and diagnostic products. He returned to Brinks in 2006 and specializes in biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, genetic diagnostic and chemical patents and complex commercial transactions involving technology transfer.

Mr. Wight holds a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and a B.S. in Chemistry, also from Brigham Young. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Licensing Executive Society.

Ryan Marshall, who was also included in the 2009 Utah Legal Elite, focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biochemical arts in the U.S. and abroad; counseling and preparing opinions in patent matters; and performing intellectual property evaluations, audits and due diligence reviews. He also litigates complex intellectual property cases and U.S. trademark registrations.

Mr. Marshall holds a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, and an M.S. in Organic Chemistry and B.S. in Chemistry, both also from Brigham Young. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (AIPLA) Young Lawyers Committee and Chemical Practice Group Committee, the American Chemical Society (ACS), Organic Division, the Utah State Bar Association, Intellectual Property Law Section and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
According to Utah Business magazine, Legal Elite honorees are selected by their peers in a statewide balloting process, whereby members of the Utah Bar are invited to submit a ballot of Utah lawyers they hold in the highest regard - lawyers they have observed first hand and would recommend to others.
