Richard A. Kaplan, a shareholder at Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, was named the "Litigator of the Week" in the June 19, 2009 editions of Law.com and AmLaw Litigation Daily in recognition of the firm's victory in Reynolds' hard-fought patent infringement lawsuit brought by Star Scientific. In addition, the article commends Mr. Kaplan's co-litigator, Ralph J. Gabric, also a shareholder at Brinks, in convincing the 12-person jury that Reynold's tobacco farmers used a curing process developed by the cigarette maker years before Star's patents were filed. Mr. Kaplan and Mr. Gabric were co-lead counsel for R.J. Reynolds in an eight-year-long patent infringement case with Star Scientific.
