Brinks attorney Christopher A. Harkins was quoted in the October 16, 2008 edition of Bloomberg.com, regarding the successful defense of client Alpine Electronics, Inc. in a patent infringement case filed by Encyclopaedia Britannica. Mr. Harkins, an attorney on the Brinks Alpine team, said that today many people do more research on the Internet than use encyclopedias and that Britannica "entered a lean period of trying to sell old technology that was not much use anymore to a newer, hipper audience.'' The court's Aug. 30 ruling closed the case, "put a stake through the heart'' of the Compton's patent, "and closed the book on Encyclopaedia Britannica.''
