Roy E. Hofer, a senior partner with Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, commented in a “Letter to the Editor” entitled “Judges should live in the neighborhood that elects them” in the October 4, 2007 issue of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. In his letter to the editor, Mr. Hofer, past president of the Chicago Bar Association, discussed the purpose and value of Illinois Senate Bill 996, signed into law on September 11, 2007, which requires Illinois judges running for retention to live in the sub circuits from which they were elected.
