Manish K. Mehta

Practice Summary

Mr. Mehta's intellectual property law practice focuses on patent prosecution and litigation. He has substantial experience in rendering infringement and patentability opinions and drafting patent applications and in the mechanical and electromechanical fields. Mr. Mehta’s litigation experience includes all phases of the discovery process, including document collection, depositions, and witness preparation, Markman hearings, and pre-trial preparation.

Mr. Mehta has represented clients from a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, automotive, ecommerce, chemical, and computer software and hardware. He was selected as a Rising Star in 2010 and 2011 by Illinois Super Lawyers, an organization that recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys in Intellectual Property law. Mr. Mehta has spoken on various topics throughout the United States and in India. Mr. Mehta is a past President of the Indian American Bar Association of Chicago.

  • Abbott Laboratories and Fournier Laboratories Ireland Ltd. v. Watson Laboratories, Inc.-Florida, Watson Pharma, Inc., and Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (D.N.J. 2010). Litigating patents under Hatch Waxman related to choline fenofibrate sold by Abbott as Trilipix®.
  • GHJ Holdings LLC v Plasticade Products Corporation (E.D. Tex. 2010-present). Defending Plasticade against false marking allegations.
  • AstraZeneca LP v. Sandoz Inc. (D. N.J. 2010-present). Litigating patents under Hatch Waxman related to budesonide sold by AstraZeneca as Pulmicort®.
  • ICOR International, Inc. v. DuPont (S.D. Ind., 2010-present).  Mr. Mehta is part of a trial team in a declaratory judgment action relating to refrigerant compositions.
  • Novo Nordisk Inc. v. Sandoz Inc., 09-cv-9217 (S.D.N.Y. 2009-present). Litigating patents under Hatch Waxman related to repaglinide and metformin sold by Novo Nordisk as Prandimet®.
  • AOL, Inc. v. Yahoo! Inc. (S.D.N.Y., 2009-present).  Mr. Mehta is part of a patent infringement case relating to internet advertising technology.
  • King v. Chapman, et al. (N.D. Ill., 2009-present).  Mr. Mehta is co-lead counsel in a pro bono matter relating to the violation of an inmate's 8th Amendment rights.
  • PRE Holding, Inc. v. Monaghan Medical Corp., et al. (E.D. Va., 2009-present).  Mr. Mehta was part of a team in a patent infringement case relating to medical devices.
  • Yakima Products, Inc. v. Saris Cycling Group, Inc. (D. Or., 2009-present).  Mr. Mehta was part of a team representing Saris Cycling Group, Inc. in a patent litigation relating to bicycle racks. 
  • Abbott Laboratories v. Church & Dwight (N.D. Ill., 2007-present).  Mr. Mehta was part of a team representing Church & Dwight in litigation relating to pregnancy testing. 
  • Alliance v. Altivity (W.D. Wash., 2007-2008).  Mr. Mehta was part of a team in a patent and trade secret case relating to containers for packaging cat litter. The case settled.
  • Jackson v. Contour, et al. (N.D. Ill., 2007-2009).  Mr. Mehta was lead counsel in a pro bono matter relating to an inmate's contraction of Tuberculosis. The case settled.
  • Alticor Inc., Amway Corp. and Quixtar Inc. v. NCR Corp. (W.D. Mich. 2007).  Mr. Mehta was part of a team which represented the plaintiffs in an action seeking a declaratory judgment of non-infringement and invalidity of seven NCR patents relating to e-commerce.
