Douglas A. Oguss
Doug Oguss' intellectual property law practice focuses on patent prosecution and client counseling in the mechanical, electrical and computer arts. Doug has over 10 years combined experience as a registered patent attorney or agent practicing before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Doug has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to medical devices, and in particular, cardiovascular, endovascular, gastroenterological and orthopedic devices, as well as medical diagnostic equipment. In addition to medical devices, Doug has patent prosecution experience relating to consumer electronics, Internet access devices, interactive broadband applications for cable and satellite television systems, audio processing systems, internal combustion engines, packaging machinery, power tools, home and office products, and biotechnology applications relating to electrophoresis apparatus.
Doug also has patent litigation experience relating to claim construction, preparation of invalidity contentions, and document review, and further has prepared right to use and invalidity opinions for his clients.
In addition to his intellectual property law practice, Doug currently serves on the Young Professionals Board for the Center for Disability and Elder Law.

- Edwards Lifesciences, LLC and EndoGAD Pty, Ltd. v. Cook Incorporated, Medtronic, Inc., Medtronic AVE, Inc., and W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (N.D. California 2003-2009). Mr. Oguss defended Cook in a patent infringement action filed by Edwards Lifesciences and EndoGAD concerning endovascular stent-grafts for treating aneurysms. Cook won a summary judgment of noninfringement and the district court entered judgment in Cook’s favor. The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the decision.
