Anastasia Heffner

Ms. Heffner's practice involves all aspects of patent litigation. She has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the mechanical, electromechanical and Internet fields, and counseling clients regarding product portfolios. Ms. Heffner also works with clients on licensing issues and works on copyright prosecution and litigation matters.

  • Alliance Packaging, LLC v. Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. and Altivity Packaging LLC (W.D. WA. 2007-2009). Subject: Patent infringement and trade secret case relating to food packaging containers. Result: Case settled.
  • In the Matter of Certain Automotive Multimedia Display and Navigation Systems, Components Thereof, and Products Containing the Same (ITC) Ms. Heffner represented respondents Alpine Electronics, Inc. and Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. in a section 337 patent infringement investigation at the International Trade Commission. The parties entered into a settlement agreement prior to the ITC hearing.
  • Alpine Electronics, Inc. and Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. v. Honeywell International Inc. and Honeywell Intellectual Properties Inc. (C.D. Cal. 2007-2009). Ms. Heffner represented the plaintiffs in this declaratory judgment action brought by Alpine. The case was stayed on the eve of claim construction briefing due to Honeywell’s filing of its ITC action. The case was dismissed upon settlement of the parties related claims in the ITC investigation.
  • Unomedical A/S v. Smiths Medical MD, Inc. (N.D. Ill.). Subject: Patent infringement case relating to medical infusion sets. Result: Case settled.
  • One World Technologies, Inc. and Ryobi Technologies, Inc. v. Rexon Industries Corp., Ltd. And Power Tool Specialists, Inc. (N.D. Ill.). Subject: Patent infringement case relating to power tools. Result: Case settled successfully.
  • Freni Brembo, S.p.A. and Brembo North America, Inc. v. Alcon Components, Ltd., et al. (N.D. Ill.). Subject: Patent infringement case relating to consumer automobile and Formula 1/NASCAR disk brake systems. Result: Case settled successfully.
  • Black & Decker Inc. v. Techtronic Industries Co., Ltd.; One World Technologies, Inc.; Ryobi Technologies Inc.; and OWT Industries, Inc. (D. Del.). Subject: Patent infringement case relating to power tools. Result: Case settled successfully.
  • Tilia International, Inc. v. The Rival Company, In the Matter of Certain Home Vacuum Packaging Machines, U.S. International Trade Commission. Subject: Patent infringement action relating to vacuum packaging machines and bags used therewith. Result: Case settled after Brinks team successfully defeated a Motion for a Temporary Exclusion Order.
  • TruCook, Inc. v. The Helman Group, et al. (N.D. Ill.). Subject: Design patent and trade dress infringement case relating to temperature-sensing barbeque forks; included very rare Markman hearing relating to design patent claim interpretation. Result: Case settled successfully.
